I have been transitioning to using Natural Earth Paints with my reclaimed wood oil paintings.

In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly vital, the realm of art is not exempt from the wave of eco-conscious choices. Enter natural earth paint, a creative medium that not only captures the essence of nature but also contributes to a more sustainable artistic practice.

Embracing the Colors of the Earth:

Natural earth paint is derived from pigments found in the earth itself – a palette gifted by nature. These pigments, sourced from minerals, clay, and other organic materials, provide a rich spectrum of colors that not only showcase the beauty of the environment but also reflect a commitment to sustainable and ethical artistry.

The Green Thumbprint: Eco-Friendly Artistry:

One of the most compelling aspects of natural earth paint is its eco-friendly footprint. Traditional paints often contain synthetic pigments and harmful chemicals that can impact the environment during production and disposal. In contrast, natural earth paint is biodegradable, non-toxic, and free from the synthetic additives commonly found in mainstream art supplies.

Connecting with Ancient Traditions:

The use of natural pigments in art has a rich history that spans civilizations. Many ancient cultures utilized materials found in their surroundings to create pigments for cave paintings, pottery, and murals. Natural earth paint not only taps into this tradition but also pays homage to the artistic practices of our ancestors.

A Palette of Possibilities:

Natural earth paint offers a diverse palette, ranging from earthy ochres and siennas to vibrant reds and deep blues. Artists can explore these colors to create works that resonate with the raw, organic beauty of the natural world. The texture and depth provided by these pigments add a unique dimension to artworks, making each creation a celebration of the earth's inherent beauty.

The Joy of Sustainable Creativity:

Beyond its environmental benefits, natural earth paint allows artists to experience the joy of sustainable creativity. The process of creating art with earth-derived pigments fosters a deeper connection to the environment and encourages a mindful approach to artistic expression. The tactile and sensory experience of working with these natural materials adds an extra layer of authenticity to the creative journey.

Educating and Inspiring:

As artists embrace natural earth paint, they become ambassadors for sustainable practices in the art world. The use of these pigments provides an opportunity to educate others about the environmental impact of art supplies and inspire a shift towards more eco-friendly choices. By choosing natural earth paint, artists contribute to a growing movement that values both artistic expression and environmental stewardship.

Conclusion: Painting a Sustainable Future:

Natural earth paint is more than a medium for artistic expression; it is a testament to the harmonious relationship between creativity and nature. As artists, we have the power to shape not only the visual landscape but also the environmental impact of our craft. By embracing the beauty of natural earth paint, we take a step towards painting a sustainable and vibrant future for the artistic community and the planet we call home.

This is why I use Natural Earth Paints. I love the natural toxin free paints and how the oils have a matte finish. They do take longer to dry I have found because I am using their walnut ol which is a longer drying oil, but other than that I do love how the texture works with the wood I paint on.
