I love plants. Do you love plants? There is a reason we all love houseplants. Bringing nature indoors in a manageable way is something I think we all subconsciously desire. But they do need love and care! Just like any other living thing. Some plants are easier than others for beginners and I will give you a few of my favorites that bring visual impact with low maintenance.
Here are some of the best indoor plants for home decor that are beautiful and low maintenance:
Snake Plant (Sansevieria)
The snake plant is a popular choice for both beginners and seasoned plant parents due to its hardiness and low-maintenance needs. With its striking, upright leaves, often variegated in shades of green and yellow, the snake plant can thrive in various lighting conditions, from bright indirect light to low light. Its bold, architectural appearance makes it perfect for modern or minimalist interiors.
Why it’s best for décor: Its upright, sleek form adds an element of structure to a space, making it ideal for corners or shelves. The snake plant's clean lines work well in contemporary and industrial styles.
Care tips: Water sparingly; this plant prefers to dry out between waterings. It thrives on neglect and can even survive in low light. These are very easy to care for plants. The more you ignore them the better they do I have found!
Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)
I LOVE hanging and trailing plants. The romantic shape they create is so versatile and useful in a design in my opinion. If you're looking for a plant that’s easy to care for and can thrive in nearly any environment, pothos is the way to go. Known for its trailing vines and heart-shaped leaves, pothos comes in several varieties with different colors and patterns, such as golden, marble, or neon green.
Why it’s great for décor: Pothos is versatile and can be placed on shelves, hung in planters, or trained to climb along trellises. Its cascading vines add a touch of greenery that works with any style, from rustic to modern to eclectic.
Care tips: Pothos thrives in a wide range of lighting conditions, including low light. Water when the soil is dry to the touch. It’s a resilient plant that can tolerate neglect, making it perfect for beginners.
Monstera Deliciosa
The biggest statement piece of the plants in my opinion is the Monstera. It is bold and powerful in a room. But it is also easy to care for. They are pretty tough. They dont like super hot bright sun and don't like overwatering or a lot of change. Consistency is key with most plants I have found.
Why it’s great for décor: Monstera’s bold, sculptural leaves create a statement in any room. It pairs beautifully with other plants and can bring an element of the jungle indoors.
Care tips: Monstera thrives in bright, indirect light and needs regular watering (about once a week). It prefers to dry out between waterings, so be careful not to overwater. Keep an eye on the leaves for signs of damage and trim them as needed.
Aloe Vera
A lot of people have trouble incorporating nature into a modern design. Aloe is a great plant for a modern room since it has a sculptural shape to it. Not just for soothing sunburns and cuts, aloe vera is also a beautiful, sculptural plant that can enhance the look of your home.
Why it’s great for décor: Aloe vera’s geometric shape and low-growing nature make it a great option for small spaces, windowsills, or as a decorative accent on tables and countertops. The plant's unique texture adds visual interest to any room.
Care tips: Aloe vera thrives in bright, direct sunlight and prefers to be watered infrequently, especially in the winter months. Be sure to let the soil dry out completely before watering.
Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)
If you like free plants get a Spider plant!! These things are like free plant facroties. they grow little started plants constantly when they are healthy and happy. And all you have to do is pluck them off and plant them and you are all set! They even have roots already.
Why it’s great for décor: Spider plants add movement to your space with their trailing, spider-like offshoots. They work well in hanging baskets, macramé planters, or as a decorative element on shelves and countertops.
Care tips: Spider plants prefer bright, indirect light and should be watered when the soil is dry. They’re also known for being resilient, making them great for those new to plant care.
Incorporating indoor plants into your décor not only brings nature into your home but also brings style!! Whether you’re looking for a statement plant like the monstera, or something more low-maintenance like the snake plant, there’s a perfect indoor plant to suit every style and lifestyle. With the right care, these plants will thrive, making your home feel more vibrant, healthy, and connected to nature. So, start adding a little greenery to your space – your home (and your well-being) will thank you!
